In preparing the follow-up to his triumphant debut album - the Mercury-nominated, Clash-inspired Brit rap classic Panic Prevention - 23-year-old Wimbledon wonder boy Jamie T went back to his roots. "Being in the spotlight made me want to hide away and get into writing again," he says.

The preparation served him well. Brilliantly leapfrogging the dreaded second album slump, Jamie's culture-mashing Kings And Queens is a vibrant state of the nation address, setting eagleeyed lyrics to pulverising pop, reggae and rap. "I look at artists like Tom Waits, the way his albums get more and more gritty as they go on," says Jamie. "I find that inspiring."
