POLICE last night ruled out a new probe into claims that a newspaper paid sleuths to tap the phones of thousands of top names.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Nigella Lawson, Lenny Henry, PR guru Max Clifford, London Mayor Boris Johnson and Labour MPs John Prescott and Tessa Jowell are said to have been among the targets of the News of the World - owned by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.
