IT'S the final haunting picture of a true hero - leading the life he loved with a band of brothers who lived and died as one.

A short while after 18-year-old Will Aldridge - the youngest soldier to die in Afghanistan - gazed into the camera, he was killed with four friends in an attack on their patrol. Taken between May 26 and July 10 - the day of the ambush - these pictures, snapped in Kandahar and Helmand, show the group, including Riflemen Joe Murphy, 18, and James Backhouse, 18, as they adjust to life in the ferocious conflict.
