Summary
THE trouble with driving an electric car is that as well as the car itself you need to use a charging station to keep it topped up with juice. Now Volvo is working on a car you'll be able to recharge by plugging it into your electricity supply at home. It plans to have the car on sale by 2012. The hybrid car will have a small diesel engine, designed to run on biofuel. It'll keep the battery charged up if you've driven away from home and your extension lead doesn't reach the car.
A FIFTH of Britain's 34 million motorists would consider buying an electric car within the next five years, according to a report by the RAC Foundation. Which is absolutely brilliant - but, as I pointed out a few weeks ago, where exactly are all these electric cars people are expected to buy? Everyone is very excited about Gordon Brown's offer of up to pounds 5,000 for those making the switch, but even the Government reckons there's little chance electric cars will be available to the masses before 2017.See the full content of this document
